Exciting times! The installation of a 99.96 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system on the Community Bank Stadium roof along with an Electric Vehicle Charging Station was completed last Friday just in time to catch some of these springtime rays! This is a huge step towards the facility becoming carbon neutral with the new panels set to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
We're excited to have this at our awesome facility and are thrilled to be contributing towards the Nillumbik Shire Council Climate Change Action Plan target of 20% reduction in grid supplied energy consumption at Council Owned buildings by 2020!
For more information please see the frequently asked questions below from the Nillumbik Shire Council.
CBS Solar Panel Works FAQ's
What is an EV charging station?
An electric vehicle charging station, also called EV charging station, is an element in the infrastructure that supplies electric energy for the recharging of electric vehicles, such as plug-in electric vehicles, including electric cars, neighborhood electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
Why is council building an EV charging station?
This will be Nillumbik’s first EV charging station and will provide more accessibility and flexiblilty to owners of electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in the area. This will build capacity within Nillumbik Shire Council, other councils and the local solar industry to enable a more rapid uptake of new renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies throughout the Victorian community.
Who can use the EV charge station?
The EV charge station is open to the public.
How many cars can be charged?
Initially, only one car can be charged at a time. There will be a dedicated parking space for electric vehicle charging next to the charge station that may expand to 2 cars as future demand requires.
How much will it cost to charge my electric vehicle?
It is free.
How long will it take to charge my electric car?
The EV charge station is a DC unit and is estimated to be able to charge a standard electric vehicle approximately 50km drive capacity in 30 minutes.
What are the benefits of using solar panels as a power source?
